In a first of its kind, Derek O’Brien interacted with the Christian community in Gujarat. Archbishop Thomas Macwan (in pic above) presided over the two-hour programme, SPEAK UP, in Ahmedabad. The Archbishop endorsed O’Brien’s view and emphasized it was time to ‘Speak Up’.
The programme was held on 9 January, 2025 at St. Xavier’s, Ahmedabad. The event was also attended by Bishop Rethna Swamy and Archbishop Emeritus Stanislaus Fernandes SJ, Sr. Kalak the Superior General of the Little Daughters of St Francis Xavier, the Vicar Generals of the Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad Dioceses, ex-Provincials, and 200 members the laity.
Father Cedric Prakash, who coordinated the event, said, “Today’s meeting was the beginning of a new dawn. There will be similar events organised in all state capitals”.
